UNKNOWN TALKS- EPISODE 11- All the bright places by Jennifer Niven (book/movie opinion)

                             ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES

                                                  -By Jennifer Niven

Hello, my amazing unknowns! How is life? Well, now that I am back, I have decided to do a book review. I read the book in a week and I finished it last Friday. I watched the movie too (it is on Netflix) but I think the book is ten times better than the movie, as I think it is kind of more lighthearted. I have to say this now, it can trigger some people because it mentions- suicide, mentally illness, grief, loss, bullying, and bipolar disorder. Now, let's dive in...

The story starts with Violet Markey standing on the ledge of the Bell Tower (where her sister died a year before) and meets Theodore Finch who tries to take her down. Violet's sister died in a car accident (with her in the car) and since then she has stopped living her life. Finch is known as a freak in the school. Finch is fighting bipolar disorder and tried to commit suicide multiple times. Finch and Violet have to do this geography project, where they have to wander Indiana. At first, Violet didn't want to go but Finch convinced her for only two wanders but while they are wandering, they are starting to open to each other and eventually fall in love. Finch tried to hide his pain from Violet while making her live her life again. Finch had family problems and his father was abusing him when he was little. I must say, Finch was my favorite character as well as Violet.

That is all I can tell you guys because I don't want anybody to get any spoilers. The book leaves you in tears, and the movie too but I personally think that you must read the book before watching the movie to understand the characters and the events better. It is sad, and no it is not romanticizing mental illness and suicide but it does make you realize how these things can lead to committing suicide. The actors who played in the film, Justice Smith- Theodore Finch and Elle Fanning- Violet Markey, did a wonderful job playing the characters. The movie, the quotes, the love scenes, the characters, the events, the wanders are just unique and Mrs. Niven really did the most to make this amazing. I am actually so proud of her for ending up on the New York Times Best-Selling authors and her book too. I have been crying and thinking about it for days now, and I have watched the movie three times by now. I am a fan of Justice Smith since I saw the movie, and for Elle Fanning too.

I enjoyed the way they transmitted and described the pain the characters went thru and I respect Jennifer for putting Suicide helplines and different helplines you can call. It did trigger me at some point and did make me wonder about my mental state, and no, I am not lying. And Jennifer Niven responded to my tweets about her book and her!!!!!! You can see it on her Twitter account.

I hope I convinced you to buy the book and watch the movie! I hope you enjoyed this!

“What if life could be this way? Only the happy parts, none of the terrible, not even the mildly unpleasant. What if we could just cut out the bad and keep the good? This is what I want to do with Violet - give her only the good, keep away the bad, so that good is all we ever have around us.”
